The Company
... was founded by Anna Lee Husband in 1999 as a home based sole proprietorship
originally called Triketrails. Daughter Kate's progressive neurological
disorder spurred Anna Lee's quest to acquire suitable leg strengthening
and range of motion enhancing mobility solutions. With little local access
to and/or knowledge regarding the available options, Anna Lee found herself
involved in the adult trike and recumbent tricycles business.
The company's innovative pace setting secure online shopping module (Triketrails.com)
soon facilitated continent wide drop shipments of several trike brands
such as Trailmate adult trikes & Penninger recumbent trikes (USA).
In 2001 product offerings were expanded to include Greenspeed recumbent
tricycles (Australia) and later the Optima recumbent cycles and Berg Go-Karts
(Netherlands) followed and shipments expanded to include all continents.
Triketrails' retail store opened in March 2002 in Whitby, Ontario as the
North American showroom for Optima Ligfiets. In early 2003 Triketrails
introduced the Challenge & M5 brands (The Netherlands), HP Velotechnik,
Toxy, Anthrotech & Hase (Germany) and more. Online sales and international
shipments of fine recumbent cycles were a mainstay of that business model.
Eventually economic factors influenced a shift away from the trikes only
branding and online sales softened due to the strengthening Canadian dollar.
Import costs drove skyward as the Euro strengthened and shipping &
duty charges rose.
Operations moved to a larger showroom under Oracle Cycle Works signage
in October 2004. With the formal hire of Jack Sochacki as shop manager
and full-time mechanic, the team expanded to 2 persons. During evenings
and weekends, David Husband lent sales & customer support at the store.
That retail outlet featured Burley, Easyracers, HP Velotechnik, Catrike
and Greenspeed models, and customers enjoyed the abundant outdoor demo
facilities and uniquely quiet setting located on Whitby's beautiful Waterfront
Trail.
Oracle Cycle's retail operation offered Canada's largest & finest
selection of recumbent bicycles and related parts and accessories. It
gained a solid reputation as Toronto's only source for knowledgable recumbent
sales and outstanding service. But unpredictable and often unresponsive
supply channels remained a concern.
Three years
of extensive collaboration between Anna Lee and Jack spawned the development
of the Oracle recumbent road bicycle brand. Combining Anna Lee's knowledge
of the world's finest recumbent cycles, their geometry, handling, component
specifications and North American marketing opportunities with Jack's
engineering & design training, his expert knowledge of high end bicycle
components & their mechanics, years of bike building and his road
race champion background ... the team brought to market the all new performance
oriented and easy handling Oracle brand of recumbent bicycles.
The first
Oracle brand recumbent bicycle, the Oracle Omega, was launched in February
2005 at the Advil Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto. In March 2005 the
Omega had a successful showing at the Toronto International Bicycle Show.
Plans are underway to develop more Oracle models showcasing Jack's design
flair and built to Anna Lee's specifications. With the manufacture of
Oracle brand frames and direct import of components, several layers have
been cut from the dense distribution maze. This means incredible savings
to the consumer. Oracle has subsequently developed a sustainable business
model that is comparatively free of supply constraints - meaning accurate
production capacity forecasts and timely order delivery. Realized production
cost savings will continue to be passed along to Oracle's valued customers.
The retail storefront closed in January 2006. Through Q4 2007 efforts
remained focused on the manufacture and production of Oracle brand fine
recumbent road bicycles with the highly acclaimed Oracle Omega earning
a reputation for superb quality and value.
Oracle Omega
demos take place by apointment in Oshawa, Ontario. For January 2008 Oracle
Cycle Works looks to cultivate and expand its new dealer
network to encompass select bicycle shops throughout Canada and the
United States.
